Living in Lae

Lae is nicknamed ‘Rainy Lae,’ ‘Gateway to the Highlands,’ and the ‘City of Potholes.’

As Lae is not exactly on most people’s maps there isn’t always easily accessible information.  These pages are designed to answer basic questions for someone moving to Lae, based on my own experience, and I am by no means an expert so feel free to comment if you have anything to add…  In a few cases it’s merely personal opinion, but should not be interpret as personal advice.  And of course take anything you read with a grain of salt…

If you are moving from overseas I am sure you have a ton of questions.  I am happy to help as my own move was made easier by those who answered my many questions and showed me around Lae.  I owe a great debt of gratitude to those that made my own transition and life in Lae easier, memorable and soooo much fun!

Don’t hesitate to contact with even the ‘simplest’ of questions!

  1. We are thinking of relocating to Port Moresby, to work with City Mission PNG, and I have been happily working my way through your blog to get a “feel” for the country. I am sorry you are no longer there to “look up”, should we be out that way soon. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading about your adventures. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort!
