About

I started this blog when I left my New York life as an Architect and moved to Lae, Papua New Guinea to teach architecture for three years at the Papua New Guinea University of Technology, or ‘Unitech.’

This blog was been an ongoing documentation of my amazing journey, observations and experiences living at the edge.  I am now back in New York city trying navigating life at, what sometimes seems to be, the centre of the world.

While I was in Papua New Guinea I taught and coordinated a variety of topics in the Department of Architecture and Building, including design studios, Architecture History(s), Visual Arts, Advanced Presentation, independent studies while taking part in research.  I fell in love with life, the people, teaching, and my amazing friends, without whom I couldn’t have survived.

I lived on campus which is about 8 kilometers from Lae, the second largest city in Papua New Guinea (PNG), with an estimated population of 120,000.  Considering it takes over 50 hours to travel and worlds of differences, you can’t get much farther from New York City – distance or culturally.

Papua New Guinea is one of the least explored and least developed countries in the world with over 850 indigenous languages and as many traditional societies.   The capital and largest city of Papua New Guinea is Port Moresby with a population of 250,000+ (est. 2000).
