Busamang

Friday – Saturday, September 21-23, 2012

I was ready to get on the banana boat and to just relax on Friday, after a hectic few days of  non-stop preparations (initially for 35+ students down to 24) and a few ‘delays.’  From my days as a lifeguard and swim teacher I give a few instructions to our non-swimmers (i.e. if boat capsizes – don’t panic, take off jeans, tie up legs and fill with air, repeat as needed) and crossed my fingers they wouldn’t need it.  Our three boats showed, we loaded and we were off.

Fish at Busamang

I’ve just gotten back from an amazing weekend in Busamang (Huon Gulf, PNG) with my students, where they were carrying out some documentation and research on the traditional architecture.  After a rough few days the weekend was just what everyone needed to revive.  The village was a great help and enthusiastically assisted the students in carrying out their work.  Exhausted, I will have to write about it more later.
